Connect and use Instagram

Connect professional accounts and handle private Direct Messages.

Prerequisites

Use an Instagram professional account you can authorize and an AI Node role with business:manage for connection management. The channel must be enabled for your business. Posts and comments are not the documented inbox surface.

Connect and test

  1. Open Config → Instagram.
  2. Read the Message access checklist. Enable the requested message access in Instagram; the page provides the current instruction.
  3. Choose the connection action, sign in to the intended Instagram account, and grant the requested permissions.
  4. Return to AI Node and inspect the connected account and status. Multiple professional accounts can be connected.
  5. From a different Instagram account, send a Direct Message to that account. Open Instagram inbox and select the correct account and conversation.
  6. If AI is handling it, use the handover action with a reason. Send a short manual reply while the page reports that the agent can reply.

Capabilities

The thread supports text, media URLs with a selected media type, replies, and heart reactions where permitted. Review the messaging-window notice before sending. A disabled composer can reflect AI handling, a read-only conversation, a provider window, or missing write permission. Use Resolve only when the conversation is under human handling and you have resolution permission.

Connection recovery

If login fails or token exchange fails, start authorization again with the correct account. Recheck message access when messages do not arrive. An app not configured notice requires platform support; reconnecting repeatedly will not configure the Meta app. Disconnect through the account panel after reading the confirmation.

Expected result and next step

The incoming DM and manual reply appear in the thread and on the customer account. Test AI behavior separately using the AI test guide. See Instagram messaging requirements.
